Daily activities and lessons? Weekly activities and lessons? What does this mean?! Actually, it's pretty easy. When you click on a grade, you will see that there are daily assignments, and weekly assignments. The DAILY assignments, mean that you work on those sites or activities EVERYDAY. There are links and activities, where the lesson material changes on a daily basis, you are never studying or doing the same thing twice...generally.
Now, the WEEKLY links, assignments and lessons, are topics that you study everyday for ONE WEEK.....or.....if it really sparks an interest...you can study that topic/stay on that topic for as long as you would like. We generally tend to stay on one single, specific topic for one week, do studies on it everyday...and then move on the next week ,to topic 2. The weekly activities do require a little bit of planning, it may be helpful to borrow books, or videos, or worksheets that help reinforce the topic/subject that is being studied for that week. Youtube and Pinterest can be of great help, along with a local library. Worksheets can easily be printed out by typing in the topic ...for example, I want to find worksheets about "apples"...type in "apple worksheets" in your search bar....and you'll easily find worksheets to print! We have found this mix of daily and weekly lessons works very well for our family. It keeps things fresh, interesting, and helps our student/s easily retain the lesson information! Daily and weekly lessons also help us be aware of areas of study our student/s may need more time/practice on. Everyone is different, we all learn at our own pace, and we like to make sure that the information/lesson is grasped well...that our student/s is confident with the material before they move on,and we have found working with the daily and weekly activities helps to monitor that much easier. If you have any questions feel free to write us on our Questions page! We would be happy to help as much as possible! Well! Our school year is about to start! We pray blessings over you, your family, your student/s, this homeschool year! As always..Happy Learning!!!!!
Welcome!! As a homeschool family, our "style" and "methods" for schooling have changed over the years. We have found that our family has very much embraced our children becoming more "independent and delight lead learners" -with structure. The most important "tool" for school for our children is their very own public library card.
This year we have decided to use a reading log worksheet and a list of books to check out at the library, along with allowing them to also read books of their choosing. We will continue as well to use many of the sites/activities/worksheets we have used in the previous years, but will no longer list them as day to day activities. Instead, each DAILY and WEEKLY link/site will be listed as a page, and you will be able to print the activity/worksheet/ etc. at your own pace and in your own timing.
We are so excited to see our children learning, growing, thinking, becoming more and more curious about the world around them, history,science,art.....we are so thankful to be a homeschool family...LIFE is an adventure and learning happens everywhere!! We have an entire world to see, smell, touch, taste, hear....there is NO limit to learning!! We thank you all so much for continuing on this journey of learning with us!!
Hello! Hope your day is going well! Today I would just like to inform you that the Scott Foresman language arts links in the 2nd grade curriculum notebooks have been taken down by the original site. This means that all the grammar and language arts worksheets and links will be replaced. Thank you for your understanding and patience. The replacement links will be up and running later this evening. In the meantime, we do not feel that your student(s) studies will be affected by the missing grammar page for the day. We appreciate you all hanging in there with us when these glitches come about, just part of the journey! Have a wonderful day, and look forward to new grammar sites tomorrow! Happy Learning!
Hello! Today I am writing to let you know that we have come across a link glitch in the 2nd grade curriculum notebook. The links like this one..
under the category Language Arts (LA) are not working. I do know why. I do know that the link was up and running just fine about 2 days ago, so, I don't know if this is a temporary glitch or not. For now, we are going to leave the links alone in the notebook, and hope that this is just a temporary glitch. If we do find out that it is not temporary, the links will be removed, and replaced.
As far as this link not working properly for the time being, we do not feel that it will hinder your child's studies, but, if you do feel you would like to find similar worksheets for that day we suggest using this site. http://printableworksheets.in/?dq=compound+words You can easily type in the main worksheet topic, for example...nouns. Once you do this, this site will generate multiple worksheets for you to choose from.
We apologize for this link being down, again, hopefully it is only temporary, because we really, really, enjoyed these worksheets. All in all we will keep you posted! Thank you for your understanding!!
Hello! Hope this post finds you doing well! Today, I would like to bring up a topic that I've been thinking about for sometime, especially while we work through our curriculum, and that topic is INK. Now, I know printer ink can be expensive, and add to the expense if you add color....I am one who tries my very best to save and conserve printer ink. I do my very best to print in greyscale and on a lower grade print quality, because we have found that, yes, this curriculum does take ink, and to be honest, the ink, will be your main expense. Now,at this time we are printing all the suggested daily worksheets and activities for 3 children, in 3 different grades, this may simply be the main reasons we seem to use a lot of ink, or 2 there is just a lot of daily material to print. Now,in general we will go through 2-3 ink cartridges per month, and many times I find myself wondering is this worth the $....or should I look into purchasing a book curriculum, or disposable workbooks....personally....when it comes down to it...for us, the answer is no. No, because.....we have finally found, and are happy and content USING the worksheets and activities that are in the curriculum notebooks... we like, enjoy, and feel that they are best suited for the way our children learn....and that is what we couldn't find before when we were searching for purchased curriculum/box sets/disposable workbooks etc. Over time ,we found what works, what we like, and hence the Raising Sweet Blessings curriculum notebooks were created...they have everything in them that we enjoy and what we were looking for to teach our children. Now, back to the ink...Do we use a lot of ink? YES. Is it worth it? YES. Now, there ARE things one can do to cut the cost of printing out the daily worksheets, and still stick to the main idea of the week....and that is 1. create your own worksheets 2. purchase disposable worksheets/workbooks from places like Dollar General, or Dollar Tree 3. find inspiration to teach the main idea on sites like Pinterest 4. purchase used curriculum 5. purchase used books from your local library or thrift store 6.swap curriculum with others 7.youtube 8.Netflix 9.renting educational videos from your local library 10. create games or crafts with materials you have around the house *Again, what works for our family, may not work for another, but that's ok! We are worksheet people, our kids really enjoy them, your family may not OR you just may not like printing out so much material...but...there are MANY alternative ways to teach the main idea of the week other than just printing out the daily worksheets. As the curriculum notebooks were created I tried to make sure majority of worksheets were available to be printed in greyscale just to save on ink, and I think that has help quite a bit, still....I am not turning my nose up saving on ink cost ... so I am looking into using companies such as $4.99 ink. http://499inks.com/ and if you have any other suggestions or comments on saving $ on INK that could be helpful, please feel free to let us know! Again, the INK will be your main cost of using this curriculum, but....for us the cost is nothing compared to the joy and peace of happy and productive children smiling at the end of a school day.
Hello everyone! Phonics is the topic for today! Now, if you use, or have been using our curriculum notebooks, especially the Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st grade notebooks, you will see that we teach our children to read by 1st, learning the alphabet sounds A-Z. We take one letter to focus on each week, and continue this from A-Z. Once our little one has mastered the alphabet sounds, we move onto sounding out simple words, B-A-T, C-A-T, R-U-N. We introduce sight words, as well as blends AND reading websites. Now, we totally understand that what works for us, may not work for you. Each child learns at their own pace, and with their own style...so...with that in mind, today I would like to share some fun, free, phonics sites that you may like to check out if you feel your little one may need more phonics in their curriculum, or even a change of a phonics curriculum. We hope that you enjoy these great resources, and as always, happy learning!! If you have any further thoughts and/or questions please feel free to share!
1. http://www.theschoolhouse.us/ free phonics lessons
2.http://www.starfall.com/ learn to read with phonics (we use this)
4.http://www.readingbear.org/ LOVE this one
5.http://www.progressivephonics.com/ another great one!
Hello! Browsing and editing more on the site today...I figured I would add this side note! Memoria Press http://www.memoriapress.com/ offers complete curriculums,Pre-K to 12th grade! BUT...(this is what I like!) you can also purchase individual studies at a pretty low cost! Now, you know I am all for FREE as much as possible..but when you can purchase a great history book to use for the entire year for around $18...not too shabby! Especially since you can add it to your library and read it over and over and over...LOL! I like good deals! Have a happy day!!
In shock! LOL...wow, how time has flown by during the creation of this site! There is SO much excitement in seeing a complete Pre-K to 12th grade resource sitting right in front of me! So many hours,laughs,tears,questions,headaches....have been put into the collection of this material. But, one thing I know is...it was ALL worth it! It makes my heart smile to know that others may be able to use this curriculum in its entirety or just bits and pieces of it....or even just find a link or two they like! The world is at our fingertips with technology these days...and I am thankful. THANK YOU to everyone who created the links that we linked to...your genius, hard work, and dedication is appreciated more than you will ever know! THANK YOU for creating fun, enjoyable, educational, and wholesome sites that my family and others can enjoy. And, thats what we hope most of all, that you enjoy and have fun along this journey of learning. LIFE is beautiful, a gift, and all in all, LIFE is school......we have an ENTIRE world, to see, touch, taste, smell, hear.....experience. God is Good. Thank you for joining us on this journey, we are SO happy you are here with us! As always our ears are always open to comments, suggestions and the such. We are SO thankful to be a homeschooling family, it's what's best for us....our children are very hands on, visual learners, who enjoy short lessons and then spend the rest of the day letting the day...be "school"....this may work for some, not for others....but all in all there is NO right or wrong way to educate your children...you find what works for you, and you...just do that! Let God lead you, and He will. He gave you your little one/s and He knows that you are the exact person/people for the job...to train them up in the ways of the Lord, to raise them up to be joyful, loving, kind, peaceful, patient, gentle, good, people with self control, a heart, mind, and soul that seeks the Lord, and that they know that God has a good plan and purpose for their life! The rest...numbers,letters, colors...it will all come...they will get it. So in the midst of it all, just remember, you are NOT alone.Educating our little ones is better when we do it together! So dont be afraid to reach out to others who are homeschooling...and as my Daddy always said "no question is a dumb question"....we would love to hear from you and connect with you. We all have something to offer! SO THANKFUL FOR YOU!! This has been,is and will be one amazing jouney. Happy Learning!! RAISINGSWEETBLESSINGS!!!!
Hello friends! Hope you are all doing well! Our year is moving forward at a good, steady pace! We are continuing to edit the curriculum notebooks daily as we personally work our way through them. We have come across many links that no longer work lately, as well as updated and included new worksheets, videos, stories etc. So far everyone has been enjoying their year, and that makes my heart so happy! Thank you so much, for those of you who have left comments, corrections, and kind words! We definitely appreciate, and enjoy, you being part of this journey of learning with us!
If you have been using the Kindergarten curriculum notebook this year, you will see a change in the subject of math. We decided to go with worksheets that print easily in black or grayscale. This was done because many times, personally, I run out of colored ink before black ink, and on those days I was finding that I was searching for similar math worksheets to print with black ink, so that experience brought on the change. We know at this point, some of the math may be review, but thats ok! You can never get too much review in Kindergarten right?!
Also! Our unit study page vanished, but has been replaced! If you have any other topics or suggestions regarding unit studies, lapbooks, notebooks, please let us know!
As of now, that seems to be all for the updates! We are continuing to slowly move forward with the 3rd grade curriculum notebook when time becomes available, but it WILL be ready to go by the next school year!! Thank you for your patience!! Have a happy, happy day!!
Hello friends! Hope your school year is going fantastic so far!! Our family has just completed our 1st quarter, yay!! We have completed the 1st 60 days of pre-K, K, and 2nd grade, which also means that ALL of those days have been personally used and edited along the way. So far we have come across a few link errors, and have added a few more items to each day, and some we have just completely re-worked. So far, we are VERY pleased with this curriculum and hope that you are enjoying it as well!! We will continue to edit etc. as we progress through each day. Your family may be farther ahead than we are, or may be using a different grade, but, please don't hesitate to let us know your idea, questions, etc. or let us know if a link or worksheet etc. just do not work, or don't fit well with the flow of the day. Thank you soooo much! Happy learning!!
